A dark and dramatic background enhances the romance of this painting and the focus is on the form and petals of the roses which have been captured so well. A rich palette of deep brown, burgundy and blue with some cream and pale pink to contrast. Oil on canvas stretched over a timber frame. Original studs can be seen around the edges. Dutch origin Signed unclearly lower right.
