N. Polikarpov design bureau biplane fighter family was the I 153. It had a gull shape dupper wing, a retractable chassis and a more powerful armament with four ShKAS machine guns. Serial planes had M 62 radial engines; the late series had a more powerful M 63. The maiden flight was in August 1938. In the summer 1941, I 153 Chaika (the Gull) was the basis
