The red 2009 Gran Reserva has some traces of classical Rioja and "old wine" character

which is perfectly balanced

Modest in scale

with supple tannins adding support

Note that the less successful examples that I have tried have had finishes that have been marred by a slight dryness

Arnaud Ente, Puligny Montrachet Champ Gain Vintage:2015 The red 2009 Gran ReservaA relatively high toned nose is comprised by cool, pure and airy notes of mineral reduction, pear and acacia blossom. There is fine intensity to the racy and pure medium weight flavors that possess both a lovely texture and ample minerality on the clean, very dry and chiseled finish that displays a touch of youthful austerity. This too is quite tightly wound and will need at least a few years of patience first.
