and if it did not house part of Hawthorne's original copy of the novel

joined together with a wood and wire clip

and they feature very finely incised banded designs

I think he was a really good painter, and I particularly love his small scale oils on cardboard; little super painterly gems. I really love the softness of the sky and two large hills or mountains in this one, giving the whole thing a wonderfully moody
