a silk weaver (canut)

This is lovely vintage slide top box with dovetailed corners and a reddish stain

The reverse side is a solid dark red

This piece is in perfect condition other than the tiny surface chip on the underside

From what I've learned there were a variety of jointed dogs and cats made in this manner, but they're quite scarce now, making them pretty valuable little things.
