I know from someone more expert that me that the watermark on the top left of the lined paper on which it is drawn dates it to the 1860s or so

I rather like how the blue-green mass at left arches over them like a giant wave though

Four Sided Antique Silent Slate with Slate Pencil iron doorstop only then understanding the surfaceIt's not too often I come across one of these double slates with the halves still attached and the perimeter wraps which made them "silent" still well attached all the way around, plus a slate pencil attached with a string to boot. There is a bit of wear to one of the two ribbons making the hinge, which I'd be happy to add a couple of stitches to in order shore it up completely (just let me know), but otherwise it's in great shape. I love the
