Sir Henry O'Neil de Hane Segrave (1896 1930) was the first person to break the 200 mph barrier when he set a new Land Speed Record driving his 'Golden Arrow' in 1927. As well as holding the record on three separate occasions, Segrave was also a successful racing driver. In 1930 he was killed on Lake Windermere while attempting to break the water speed record..
