Gaja’s wines are often immensely appealing when young – which is certainly the case with the 2007s – but then close down in bottle for a number of years

This is also very clearly built-to-age and I wouldn’t dream of touching a bottle for at least 10 years and it should easily reward 20

This is very ripe with its aromas of cooked plum

balanced acidity and elegant tannins are rolled into one beautiful wine

but as it settles into the glass there are plenty of Margaux floral aromatics and soft berry fruits
