doesn't look to be 11 years old
This is a bit firmer than the Combottes with even more evident minerality on the delicious
backward and brooding nose reluctantly gives up hints of very earthy dark pinot fruit nuanced by a distinct animale hint that merges into broad-shouldered flavors that offer excellent volume and concentration that finishes with just a hint of dryness and plenty of minerality
the wine is perhaps more interesting on the nose with its blast of garrigue
but it's not necessarily better
Guigal, Ermitage Ex Voto other_regions doesn't look to be 11The 2010 Hermitage Ex Voto continues to top out on my scale. This extraordinary Hermitage has more minerality and delineation than the 2009, as well as overflowing aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, graphite and wood smoke. Massively concentrated, full bodied, decadent, layered and sexy, it needs short term cellaring but should be just about immortal in the cellar.
