though I don't really know enough to distinguish fine ones from cheap tourist souvenirs

which I believe is what is was made for

The body and head are carved of one piece

though it would also make a good serving bowl or catch-all

The dog appears to be leaping toward a ball or globe

Beautifully Worn Old Leather Box five-drawers though I don't really knowThis old box would feel right at home in a library or study filled with old books, leather club chairs and maybe a fireplace ( wafting cigar smoke, too!) I'd guess it might have been made as a card box (I believe two decks would fit inside), but would be good for all sorts of things. The leather is wonderfully worn to a warm dark brown and it just has a great feeling to it. The leather hinge connecting the lid to base on the back side is mostly split
