seemingly abstract mark on the black-glazed rim of the plate but I don't know the maker

I am not an expert on pin cushions so am not completely sure the age of this

as what is more symbolic

My German is pretty much non existent, but I've translated the beginning of the card inside to glean "oh child, God didn't give life just for this short time" or something along these lines.
