This black cat appears to have been painted just in advance of Halloween 1905, and in the ensuing century plus the black paint has alligatored just like on my favorite old folk art doorstops. It's the frowning crescent moon above and accompanying phrase, though, that perhaps speaks most to the humor and sensibilities of
