As the artist has seen, this painting represents a populated market scene in Haiti. Felix Jean was born in Anse a Vau, Haiti, in 1929 and died in 1978. He started at the Centre d'Art in 1950 and studied under Pierre Monosiet. He participated in all major exhibitions of the Centre d'Art in Europe, the U. S., and South America.
