Bronze medal, obverse bearing an eagle, reverse inscription FOR SERVICE ON THE MEXICAN BORDER, numbered 20004 on the edge, on original ribbon, 32 mm, very fine condition. Footnote: The Mexican Border Service Medal was instituted on July 9, 1918. The Bronze Medal was initially awarded to National Guard troops, who were ineligible for the award of the Mexican Service Medal, in recognition of federalized service during
