I think this is just about a perfect object

which I imagine was custom made for the purpose

It consists of four pieces of wood

2 3/4" tall without lid

Only recently did I learn--through my mother's sleuthing of pottery marks--that it was made by Michael Cohen

Antique Corkscrew With Turned Wood Handle appetizer plate I think this is justA great old corkscrew, probably late 19th early 20th century, with a nice long turned wooden handle, allowing for a good strong grip. Perfect for the home bar or throwing in a picnic basket along with a bottle of wine! 4 1 8" long, 3 1 2" across at handle, 5 8" wide. Good antique condition, with wear and some dryness light cracking to the wood (which I have not touched). Works well!
