The F 111 pioneered new technologies such as variable sweep wings, afterburning turbo fan engines and terrain following radar for low level tasks at high speed. Having served in Vietnam and the Gulf war the Aardvark retired in 1996. The Royal Australian Air Force continued to use the aircraft up until 2010.
