It's a running gag with eggbutt bit rings, preventing the lips from being pinched. This bit has been designed to be used with gag cheeks; the gag cheeks fit through the slots in the bit ring to give a clearly defined aid. It's recommended that this bit is used with two sets of reins, with one set attached to the gag
