Shackleton - T-shirt Mach Loop This fighter first saw serviceAvro Shackleton AEW II The MR 2s replaced the Fairey Gannet in 1972 and was then re designated as the AEW II with the installation of the AN APS 20 radar. The Shackleton was operated by No. 8 Squadron, based at RAF Lossiemouth. The 12 AEWs were given names from the Magic Roundabout and The Herbs TV series. The Nimrod AEW3 was to replace the Shackleton in 1991, but when the project was cancelled the Boeing E 3D Sentry was ordered.
